DENTAL IMPLANTS LOOK AND FUNCTION LIKE NATURAL TEETH, AND ARE THE NEXT BEST THING TO REPLACE MISSING TEETH
Advancements in dental implants have made them the preferred choice for replacing missing teeth. Dental implants look and function like natural teeth and are the next best thing to your natural teeth. Dental implants are permanently affixed in place, restoring the natural-appearing beauty and function to your teeth. If you’ve experienced the loss of one or more of your teeth, it may be time to consider rebuilding your smile with dental implants.

DENTAL IMPLANTS CAN LAST A LIFETIME, ARE CONVENIENT AND DON'T NEED SPECIAL MAINTENANCE

Dental implants are a great alternative to other teeth replacement options such as dentures and bridges, if you need to replace your extracted teeth. Dental implants offer many advantages over them, such as:

-
Long-Lasting: Replacing missing or cracked teeth with implants is a great long-term investment. They function like your normal teeth and are extremely durable. They may last you a lifetime as long as you take proper care of them. You can continue on with regular eating and day-to-day activities without worrying about damaging your teeth.

-
Easy Eating And Chewing: You can eat and chew your favourite foods with confidence and painlessly again. Dental implants don’t come off when you eat or chew.

-
Improved Speech: When you speak, there’s no mumbling or slurring of words because dental implants don’t slip.

-
No Special Care or Maintenance: You don’t need to take any special care of your dental implant. You need to take normal care of your dental implants just like your regular natural teeth – daily cleaning using a tooth brush and a floss.

-
Comfort: Dental implants are very comfortable because they become part of your body.

-
Better Alternative and Convenience: Unlike a dental bridge, your dental implant does not affect the neighbouring teeth. With dental implants you don’t need to go through the inconvenience of removal, overnight soaking, special maintenance, use of adhesives, etc.

-
Oral Health: Dental implants help to preserve your jawbone after your teeth are lost or removed. They also help you maintain and improve your oral health.

-
Improved Smile and Confidence: Because implants are designed to look like your natural teeth, you won’t even be able to tell a difference, especially at the hands of our experienced dentists at Dunwin Dental Mississauga. Dental implants can dramatically change your smile, giving you confidence and comfort that you haven’t experienced in years.

DENTAL IMPLANTS HAVE A VERY HIGH SUCCESS AND SATISFACTION RATE

Dental implants have a very high success rate of 98%. 99% of patients with dental implants are either satisfied or very satisfied - that’s pretty much everyone. There’s very little discomfort involved with the procedure and the procedure is less painful than tooth removal. If an implant fails, it can be tried again in 3 months’ time.
Dental implants can be used to replace a single lost tooth or many lost teeth.

DENTAL IMPLANTS ARE AFFORDABLE BUT NOT CHEAP

Dental implants are affordable but not cheap. Although, dental implants cost more than dentures and bridges and may seem like an expensive option, they are a good value.
Considering length of the treatment, number of dental visits needed, cost, durability, length of recovery, ease of chewing/drinking, ease of speaking, comfort in mouth and looks, dental implants may work out to be cheaper in the long run. Dental implants don’t have maintenance, adjustment, adhesive etc. related on-going costs either.
Because dental implants are considered cosmetic procedure, their cost may not be covered by your dental insurance plan.

ARE YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants are not for everyone.
You may choose dental implants to replace your missing teeth if you are not satisfied with your dentures or you don’t like your teeth to be shaped to support a dental bridge.
To qualify for a dental implant, you must:

-
Be in good general health.
-
If you suffer from high blood pressure, use tobacco of any kind (chew, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, dip, pipes) or consume alcohol, dental implants may not be for you due to higher implant failure rate in such cases.
-
If you suffer from chronic diseases like leukemia and diabetes, dental implants may not be suitable for you due to slow healing after surgery.
-
If you are on antidepressants or antacid medications, these medications may also negatively affect implant placement.
-

-
Have healthy gums and enough bone in the jaw to hold an implant. If you don’t have adequate jaw bone to have a dental implant, you may be able to get bone built up surgically (bone grafting) in the area needing the implant.

-
Be comfortable with the surgical procedure to place dental implants.
Talk to your dentist at Dunwin Dental to check if you qualify for dental implants. She will assess your specific needs, conduct a comprehensive dental examination including taking x-rays of your head, jaw and teeth, review your medical history, explain risks and additional procedures required if any and recommend a suitable treatment plan.

ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS RIGHT FOR YOU?

The following video briefly explains dental implants:
THE DENTAL IMPLANT PROCESS AND WHAT TO EXPECT

Consultation
We discuss various implant options during your first visit that allows you to explore the possibilities and process of getting dental implants, with no commitment. Our goal is to provide you with transparent information that will help you make an informed decision about your own outcome. We will take photographs, x-rays, and possibly impressions of your teeth during this visit, so we can better assess your situation and give you the most detailed information possible.

Procedure

A titanium implant is placed into the bone, beneath the gum tissue to support the replacement tooth. We then place a healing cap over the implant and stitch the gums. We may replace the gap in your smile with a temporary tooth until your healing is complete.

Healing

Healing can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months for your jawbone to grow naturally around the implant to hold it in place.

Crown

After this time, we check your healing, then take an impression of the implant and gums to design a custom fit crown.

Some implants can have a temporary crown placed the same day while other implants may take up to a year to complete. The treatment depends on several factors such as your anatomy or bone structure, type of implant and the tooth being replaced.

DENTAL IMPLANT AFTERCARE

-
Schedule regular dentist exams (every 6 months)

-
Proper dental hygiene - Brush your teeth twice a day, clean between the teeth at least once a day and ensure that area around the implant is very clean to minimize the risk of problems such as gum disease which can weaken the bone supporting the implant

-
Yearly dental X-ray to ensure implant health
