"Decayed, Damaged or Lost Tooth is a Big Deal”

You want to keep your natural teeth as long as possible. It is true that your lifespan is affected by whether you keep or lose your teeth. Dentists at Dunwin Dental do their level best to extend the life and function of your natural teeth as much as possible because they are the best, are supposed to last a lifetime and can possibly add years to your life.

A MISSING TOOTH IS A SERIOUS MATTER

Have you lost one or more of your teeth? If yes, you should replace your lost tooth/teeth as soon as practicable for the following reasons:

  • Your teeth may become crooked. When you lose one or more of your teeth, your nearby teeth may shift their positions, become crooked and change your bite. A missing tooth may affect your bite, put more pressure on the remaining teeth and jaw joints. This may cause damage and pain.

  • You may be at an increased risk of gum disease. You may be at a greater risk of gum disease because tipped or drifted teeth are harder to clean.

  • You may have difficulty with chewing and speaking. You may also struggle to chew foods and speak certain words properly.

  • You may lose confidence and smile. People who lose their teeth often also lose their confidence and smile. The appearance issue is much more important if the lost teeth are front teeth.

  • You may look older. Your lips may appear thin and flattened. Your chin may move forward, upward and appear pointed. Your mouth may also lose some of its shape and your lip line may straighten. Pouches may become pronounced on either side of your lower jaw. Cracks and sores may form at the corners of your mouth. You may experience bone loss as well.

Losing a tooth is extremely common. Replacing your missing teeth can bring back your ability to each and chew foods you used to enjoy, your ability to speak clearly, your lovely smile and the confidence that comes with it. This can positively impact your self-esteem and quality of life.
