TEETH WHITENING IN MISSISSAUGA

"Get A Whiter Brighter Smile"

SPARKLING WHITE TEETH FOR A BRIGHTER SMILE

When you look in the mirror in the morning, do your teeth seem to be discoloured no matter how much you brush? If yes, there’s a possibility that the enamel of your teeth has become stained and is in need of being whitened.

Your teeth can be brighter and sparkling shiny that can last for many years. Teeth whitening is the easiest, least expensive way to make a noticeable impact on your smile.

There are hundreds of over-the-counter solutions for teeth whitening, but they aren’t able to address all the causes of dental staining. Thankfully there are in-office cosmetic dentistry solutions for these cases. Determining whether you’ll be able to benefit from over-the-counter whitening products or if you’ll need the advanced teeth whitening available from your dentist is best done by making an appointment.

You can get your teeth whitened in our office or at your home depending upon the required treatment.

Our dental office whiteners are stronger than home-use tooth whiteners and over-the-counter tooth whitening products. Dental office tooth whiteners can change the colour of your teeth faster (9 dental shades in about an hour) than do-it-yourself methods (days or weeks). These in-office whiteners have been used for more than 25 years and are very safe for your teeth.

At Dunwin Dental, we also provide home-use whiteners and custom-made trays for your upper and lower teeth by making a model of your mouth. You will receive detailed instructions on how to place bleaching solution in the trays, how long to wear them at home, precautions to take to avoid the possible side effects, avoid over-whitening and how to keep your teeth white for a longer period of time. After 2 to 3 weeks of at-home whitening, your teeth can change 9 or so dental shades.

Please note that your teeth and gums need to be in good health before your teeth can be whitened. If you have cavities (caries or tooth decay) or gum disease, these need to be treated before whitening treatment can be started. Tooth whitening may irritate the areas where your gums may have pulled away from your teeth.  Tooth whitening cannot change the color of fillings, crowns, implants and some stains.

We will do an oral exam to determine whether you qualify for the treatment and ensure your teeth are strong and healthy to receive the treatment. We will discuss your cosmetic goals and recommend the right option for you.

WHAT AFFECTS THE COLOUR OF MY TEETH?

Food and Drink

After many years, certain food and drinks can affect the colour of your teeth. Things like coffee and wine are known to cause teeth stains over time.

Natural Causes

Your teeth can become discoloured due to enamel breakdowns in aging. The combination of existing stains and aging can cause permanent teeth colour alterations.

Smoking

Smoking is infamous for causing yellow teeth quickly. Tobacco is taken orally, by smoking or chewing, so it is no surprise that this is one of the leading causes of discoloured teeth.

Poor Hygiene

Without proper dental hygiene (regular flossing and brushing), stains can build up and set in permanently.

THE TEETH WHITENING PROCESS AND WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Oftentimes the evaluation, preparation, and teeth whitening procedure are all done in the same visit at our Mississauga dental office. We offer both Zoom and Opalescence systems.

  • We will perform a cleaning of the enamel beforehand for best results.

  • We apply a barrier to protect your gums, followed by a whitening gel (Carbamide Peroxide) carefully to your teeth. This step takes about 15 minutes, and you will receive 3-4 applications of the gel.

TEETH WHITENING AFTERCARE

  • Schedule regular dentist exams (every 6 months)

  • Proper dental hygiene

  • Yearly dental X-ray to ensure implant health

  • Avoid food that can stain your teeth for at least two weeks such as red wine, tomato-based pasta sauce, etc.

Keep in mind your teeth may return to their original natural colour over time.
