"Dramatically Improve Your Smile with Dental Veneers"

GET ENVIABLY PERFECT WHITE TEETH WITH PROCELAIN VENEERS

If you’ve ever seen someone with teeth that appear to be enviably perfect and white without appearing unnatural, there’s a possibility that they’ve received porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic dentistry treatment developed to correct multiple minor, aesthetic problems. Patients experiencing cosmetic concerns that are not severe enough for orthodontic treatment, such as chipped, misshapen, or misaligned teeth, may benefit from porcelain veneers.

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to a patient’s teeth to correct multiple cosmetic concerns. They are shaped and colored to match the patient’s natural teeth while creating a beautiful smile of their dreams. Veneers are typically made from porcelain, though resin composite materials can be used. Porcelain is typically the material of choice for its stain-resistant quality and translucent appearance that mimics natural enamel.

IMPROVE YOUR SMILE WITH POECELAIN VENEERS

If you are not happy with your smile or the way your teeth look like or lack confidence, veneers may be an excellent way to improve your smile and enhance your confidence.

Aesthetic concerns commonly addressed using porcelain veneers are minor in nature. The benefit of porcelain veneers is that they offer the opportunity to correct multiple concerns at once without lengthy orthodontic treatment. In most cases, porcelain veneers are a more cost-effective solution than using multiple other approaches. The concerns that can be addressed with this cosmetic treatment include:

  • Stubborn discoloured teeth, such as those resulting from a root canal or tetracycline treatments

  • Worn teeth

  • Broken or chipped teeth

  • Irregular, misaligned, or uneven teeth

  • Gaps between the teeth

Your teeth and gums must be healthy to receive veneers. If there’s any disease or decay, it must be treated first.

If you grind or clench your teeth or have a deep overbite, veneers may not be a good option for you. Although your dentist works to remove as little enamel as possible, because tooth enamel is removed to place the veneer, the process is irreversible and cannot be undone.

Before you choose veneer treatment, talk to you dentist at Dunwin Dental and discuss your treatment options. We will examine your mouth, teeth and gums, and discuss your cosmetic goals so that you can weigh pros and cons of veneers and make an informed decision.

THE PORCELAIN VENEERS TREATMENT PROCESS AND WHAT TO EXPECT

1st Appointment

During the initial consultation at our dental office, we will go over your goals for your smile restorations. We will also take photographs to track progress. This procedure typically takes multiple visits to complete, the exact number of visits can depend on the complexity of the case, and the number of teeth being treated. It all starts with a consultation visit to determine the state of your oral health and if porcelain veneers will be an appropriate solution for your concerns. Once this is determined and you’re cleared to get veneers, you’ll have two additional office visits.

2nd Appointment

The second visit will be when most of the hard work happens. Your dentist will reshape the surface of your teeth, removing a layer of enamel to make room for the porcelain veneers. An impression will be taken of your newly modified teeth so it can be sent to a dental lab to complete your final veneers. It will typically be 2-4 weeks until they’re completed, so your dentist will put temporary veneers in place in the meantime.

Final Appointment

During this visit, you’ll have the finished veneers bonded to your teeth. Your dentist will ensure that the color is correct and that they fit your teeth properly. Some trimming may occur to ensure they fit comfortably, and they’ll adjust the shade until they match your natural teeth. After polishing and etching the surface of the tooth to ensure a good seal, they will be bonded to your teeth.

PORCELAIN VENEER AFTERCARE

Veneers do not require any special maintenance. Make sure to maintain your veneers to keep them healthy and long-lasting:

  • See your dentist regularly to keep your teeth and gums healthy

  • Proper dental hygiene - Brushing your teeth twice a day with a soft toothbrush, flossing between them at least once a day

  • Always clean between your teeth and around your veneers

It is possible for a veneer to chip, crack, wear down, become loose or fall off over time. If this happens, your veneer may need to be re-bonded, repaired or replaced.

Regardless of whether you have dental veneers, never use your teeth as tools, for example, do not open packages or bottles/cans, tear bags, bite your nails, hold things or crack nuts with your teeth. Chewing on hard objects such as ice or pencils is not a good idea.
